Florence, Part One – Beautiful Days And Operatic Nights

“Making the simple complicated is commonplace; making the complicated simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.”  Charles Mingus

I arrived in Florence about noon and took a leisurely stroll towards the hostel.  A stand at a local market provided a great stop for some delicious cheese, and so I stopped for a while to do some people watching.

After checking in, I mapped out my route and bought a ticket for a local operatic production.  I made my way up to Piazzale Michelangelo for an amazing view of the city.  Then I wandered along the river and then had a very good meal at Mama Gina’s, which was highly recommended by a friend.

From there, I went and experienced my first opera.  It was a small, but wonderful production of “La Boheme” in an old church.  I had a wonderful time and want to see more opera at some point.

Then I made my way to the river for a few nighttime photos along the river.  Below are my photos from my first day in Florence.
