Catania – New Friends And New Food

“Friends and good manners will carry you where money won’t go.” – Margaret Walker

I arrived late in the night in Catania and made my way to the hostel.  The next morning I started my major task of doing laundry.  While I was waiting on my clothes, I met a new friend who is also traveling the world and goes by Peter Parkorr and his blog is Shock and Orr.

We talked about travel and plans.  Then we headed out and he showed me some cool stuff around the city. Towards the end of our walk, we made a couple of stops.  At one store, you can buy your choice of wine for about $4 for a liter and a half in a recycled water bottle.

Then I tried horse meat for the first time. It is considered a bit of a delicacy in Catania and is served at a number of shops and stands.  I had a small bit of strip steak and a couple of sausage, and let’s just say that it was very delicious but I don’t plan on eating it again soon.

Here are some photos from my day in Catania.

Francesca Surace - Hi Jake. Seeing these images brought back fond memories of my native Southern Italy. Thanks for sharing. Of course you can trust the Italians to sell wine on tap!
By the way, horse meat is highly nutritious and very good good for you. It’s popular in the South. Do eat some more of it if you get a chance.
Enjoy and bottoms up!!
